Winter Product Ski and Board Test Evenings 2006  Report

Well I can't believe that the ski tests are over for another year and now it's time for the snow to start falling!

Our tour of the central belt Snowsport Centres was, as per usual, very well attended even with the shocking weather conditions. Tillicoultry, near Stirling, was our first port of call, what a marvellous facility they have.

Good long slope which is served by a full size poma tow and a friendly ski store to boot! I didn't think it could rain that hard and also didn't expect anybody to turn up and ski in those conditions. HOW WRONG WAS I? There were some old faces and some new trying to decide which ski or board they preferred, bit of a hard task but with the slope running fast it made it a lot easier.

Next port of call was Bearsden ski club or should I say; West of Scotland Snowsports Centre. It's amazing what you can do with a lottery grant!

Their new club house is fantastic and has been decked out with all mod cons. The new jump slope! Well, what can I say....... AWESOME!

This is where you get your eyes opened at the new school stuff the guys are into. TWIN TIP SKIS ROCK BIG HERE! I think I’ll continue to watch from the balcony!

Bellahouston Ski and Snowboard Centre was our next stop. To my surprise, their slopes are growing! The main slope has become longer which will be great on the race nights, and their snowflex slope has grown a 1/4 pipe!

The twin tippers had migrated across the water. We were greeted by the hard core skiers first, keen to get as much time on the new gear as possible. The upsidedowny, backtofronty dudes then appeared to give us their view on the new twinnies and show us how it's done!

Last stop, Polmont Ski Centre in Falkirk. What a fantastic facility with a very friendly welcome. The weather was great, the slope was running well, loads of keen skiers and boarders looking to try the new gear and cakes and coffee on tap! What more could you want? (maybe a gin+tonic). It was the ideal slope to finish the tour, the participants were great crack.

This has made me realise that snowsports are growing HUGELY in popularity.

I would like to thank all the staff that helped make this tour a success and you the public who came and supported us. Now let us pray for BIG SNOW THIS WINTER!!!!!
