Blues Film Night 2006

The annual BLUES Film Night, hosted by Jim O’Doire, was held this year at the Omni Cinema Complex in conjunction with Black Diamond Films.

Warren Miller's latest feature film, ‘OFF THE GRID’ opened with a montage of adrenaline-pumping shots and world class skiers charging through deep snow and taking scary lines on unthinkably steep terrain. In fact ‘the steep and deep’ just got ‘steeper and deeper’!

We were whisked around the world to familiar and some unusual ski destinations. Girdwood and Cordova, Alaska; Krippenstein, Austria; Disentis, Switzerland; Steamboat, Winter Park, Big Sky/ Moonlight Basin, Snowbird and Solitude, Utah; Golden, British Columbia and Japan for a Snowball fight! This all contrasted with isolated rural village life in the Kashmir Himalayas.

A moment of madness was Jaime Pierre shattering his own world record for the highest cliff jump with a 255ft drop into the bottomless powder of the Teton Range. A Scot from Fraserburgh provided local interest by featuring in a world gathering of the last of the ‘Monoskiing’ tribe, wiggling their hips in their final defiant fling perhaps.

A full audience enjoyed the film and 'Jim's' entertainment during the intermission. One lucky 'student' won a pair of Rossignol ski and bindings of his choice whilst loads of gifts were showered out.

Watch out for next year’s exciting film with lots more prizes and vouchers…it will be worth attending.
